BIM Integration with Structure and MEP

Our October meeting will focus on Structure and Services: how we can better integrate workflows in the Architectural profession. I would encourage Architects to attend as the discussion will be about communication and collaboration through BIM.

These topics will be open to the floor and I’m sure we’ll see some lively debate, but no finger pointing please!

From the structural side we will have Shanoc Haliday from Robert Bird Group and Ben May from AECOM presenting:

Revit Structure BIM, what is BIM and who is BIMming and setting pathways to BIM

a basic overview of BIM with several references (from books that I have won), Matrix review as we had in the past, BIM deployment plans

Load Bearing Elements Under
Methods for various versions 10, 11, 12, wireframe, hidden line, filled regions, ghosting and transparent

Link Revit Models with Structural Analysis Programs
Which ones work, bugs, costs, how to model for Structural Analysis, adding loads in Revit

Using working Schedules to create Structural information for calculations
How Revit working schedules can minimize time for Engineers

On the Services side we’ll hear from Peter Goodman from Waterman AHW and Russell Strange from AECOM who will be presenting on:

BIM Execution Plans (MEP Consultant perspective)

A look at LOD’s and a discussion on what is reasonable to achieve during design in a design intent model

Copy/Monitoring

A live demonstration of the c/m process and discussion on the (im)practicallities of using it for services items.

ANZRS
Adding clearance zones to you familes; examples and discussion.

Working in a Multi-Discipline model

Minimum worksets and how to schedule.

If there’s any time left Russel will present on schematics in MEP.

Case Study

We finally have a case study from one of our own to present.

Simon Gibbs from WSP Lincolne Scott will be presenting a case study on the Crown Casino Westend Redevelopment.
Simon will be providing insight into the scope of project, how they faced and overcame project challenges and their approach to developing the model.
